The ER 5183 is an aluminium alloy that has improved strengths on alloys such as 5086 and 5356. It is commonly used in welding marine components, cryogenics, and aluminium alloys such as 5083, 5086, 5456, to each other or to 5052, 5652 and 5056.
ER 5183 has a magnesium content of close to 5%, and a higher manganese content of aluminum magnesium welding wire provides good corrosion resistance, heat resistance, high strength, and good ductility.
It is recommended to use in scenarios requiring welds of high strengths, high fracture toughness for impact resistance, and where exposure to corrosive elements are expected. It is not recommended for elevated temperature applications due to its susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking.
