ESAB Shield-Bright 309L X-tra Flux-Cored Wire
ESAB Shield-Bright 309L X-tra is a gas-shielded flux-cored wire designed for welding stainless steels to carbon or low-alloy steels and for the first-layer cladding of carbon and low-alloy steels. Classified as E309LT0-1 and E309LT0-4, it offers excellent crack resistance thanks to its higher percentages of chromium and nickel. This wire is optimized for flat and horizontal fillet welds, producing flat to concave beads with easy slag removal.
Shield-Bright 309L X-tra is ideal for applications where service temperatures do not exceed 399°C. It is especially useful in joining thick sections, where the non-stainless steel should be buttered with a layer of Shield-Bright 309L X-tra, and the joint finished with Shield-Bright 316L X-tra or Shield-Bright 308L X-tra for optimal corrosion resistance. With its rutile-based slag system, this wire operates in spray transfer mode and can weld at high currents with high deposition rates using both M21 (Ar/CO2 mix) and C1 (100% CO2) shielding gases.
